Signatures

Reading signed messages shared in communities

A signed message can be strong evidence, but only if the key behind it is the right one.

What signatures show

A valid signature proves the message came from a specific key and has not changed.

Key provenance

Communities sometimes share keys of unknown origin. A valid signature from an unknown key proves little.

Copied signatures

Old signed messages can be reposted out of context. Check the date inside the signed text.

Practical use

Combine signature checks with a dated, reviewed source for We The North addresses.
